Introduction
The Gayatri Mantra is a mantra from the 10th Stanza of the 62nd Hymn of the 3rd Mandala of the Rigveda. It is perhaps the most popular mantra in modern Hindu Sanatani culture alongside the Mahamritunjaya Mantra.

How should I chant Gayatri Mantra?
The mantra is believed to yield the best results during Brahma Muhurta (which starts 1 hr 36 mins before sunrise) and should be chanted 108 times. Beginners can start with odd-number chants of 3, 7, or 11 and gradually progress to 108.
However, if you find that difficult, you can start chanting it at any time of day, as many times as you like, which is better than not chanting at all.
Please note that the mantra starts yielding positive results only when practiced consistently over time.
Significance of Gayatri Mantra
Gayatri Mantra is considered an auspicious hymn during Satyanarayan Katha, Yagya (Havan), Marriage, Griha Pravesh, and many other occasions.
It is also considered one of the best mantras for meditation and saadhna. Several schools and organizations orchestrate group chantings of the Gayatri Mantra, where the mantra can be chanted up to 1008 times.
Please note that for routine worshippers, a 108 chant is suitable as it takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes.
It is a suitable mantra for both believers and atheists (if they are spiritually inclined).
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any negative effects of the Gayatri Mantra?
No, unless done mockingly or in an unserious manner, commonly chanted mantras do not have negative effects. If you believe that you made an honest mistake, you can always ask for forgiveness from the deity of that mantra, in this case, Surya Dev.
