Shanidev Mantra
ॐ नीलांजनसमाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम् ,
छायामार्तण्डसम्भूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम्॥
Meaning in Hindi
- ॐ नीलांजनसमाभासं – जिनका वर्ण नीले-काले काजल के समान है
- रविपुत्रं – जो सूर्य के पुत्र हैं
- यमाग्रजम् – जो यम (धर्मराज) के बड़े भाई हैं
- छायामार्तण्डसम्भूतं – जो छाया और मार्तण्ड (सूर्य) से उत्पन्न हुए हैं
- तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् – उन शनैश्चर (शनि देव) को मैं प्रणाम करता हूँ

- ॐ नीलांजनसमाभासं (Om Nilanjana Samabhasham) – I bow to you, who is dark blue in appearance
- रविपुत्रं (Raviputram) – Son of Suryadev (Sun)
- यमाग्रजम् (Yamagrajam) – Elder brother of Yamraj
- छायामार्तण्डसम्भूतं (Chhaya Martanda Sambhutam) – Born to Devi Chhaya and Surya (Martanda)
- तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् (Tam Namami Shanaeeshcharam) – We send our Namashkar to you Shanidev
Benefits
The mantra is believed to resolve your karma and works in your favour by balancing them. If your good luck or wealth is stopped because of bad karma, the mantra and the deity will first purify them (through necessary punishment, but will not break you).
Once you emerge from that, you will see an unstoppable series of good luck and charm.
However, you must continue to walk the path of good karma to continue reaping benefits of this mantra.

Who Should Chant?
People with strong will to face their karma should chant it as it will purify them inside and out. The mantra is a very powerful one and cleanses your mind, body and soul.
However, people will low will power or resolve may break down when they face their bad karma.
However, those undergoing any hardships which they believe is too much should chant and ask Shanidev to grant them absolution from their hardships.
How to do Japa?
Devotees should pick Saturday (Shanivar, or the day dedicated to Shanidev) and start chanting the manta 108 times. It is preferred that the mantra should be chanted under open sky as it is believed Shanidev resides always under open skies.
Even the main temple of Shanidev at Shingnapur (also known as Shanishingnapur) is under open sky.
Precautions
The mantra worships Shanidev, the god of Karma. The deity is known to purify you inside and out. Those not willing to face their karma, should not invite Shanidev because it might cause them immense psychological pain when they are purified.
